Create a pro forma invoice

Need to send a pro forma invoice to a customer? No problem โ€“ here's how to get that done.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Key point: Pro-forma invoices are created as quotes, and not invoices!

Why? Well, when you create an invoice, that invoice total is expected to be paid โ€“ so job balances and outstanding payments will reflect that invoices total.

But a pro forma invoice isn't a request for payment, it just tells your customer the purchase price. So, create a quote and title it as a pro-forma, rather than an invoice!


How to create a pro forma invoice


  1. Visit the job > Create new quote

    Start a new quote for the relevant job (โ€“ why a quote, and not an invoice? See above!)


  2. Change the quote title to pro-forma


  3. Enter your description and price

    Describe as many work items and price as you need โ€“ just like any other paperwork.


  4. Save and send!

    That's itโ€ฆ save it and it's ready for you to send!
